Monday – No class today

Tuesday – Study for your test tomorrow, Do Thesis and read section in your book about the rough draft – due tomorrow

Wednesday – Test on Chapter 9, hand-written rough draft due on Thursday (final draft needs to be at least 3 pages typed, so keep that in mind while you are writing), follow the format in your book for the rough draft

Thursday – Work time on rough draft in library and English, presentation due tomorrow – 1 slide and notes about your topic

Friday – Presentations

Writer’s workshop – finding sources

Find 5 quality sources by Tuesday, find 5 additional sources by Thursday (10 total)

  • Use the 4R test to help you determine whether it is a good source
  • Use the URL to see if the site is reliable

Write down bibliography information and number your sources on a notecard.  Example for a book:

Use p. 586 in your literature book and your research paper packet to help you write down the correct information for each source.

Writer’s Workshop Assignment Due Thursday

Your assignment for Thursday is:

In your groups of 3-4, choose a topic.  Then,
  • Each member of your group will find 2 online articles about that topic.  Examples: online news article, journal article, or magazine article
  • Evaluate each source using the 4R test.
  • Explain in at least one sentence why each source fits or does not fit each category.  (Minimum of 8 sentences total)

Remember to PRINT your 2 articles and bring them to class along with your 4R tests sheet.

Assignment for Tuesday:

Conduct three different searches using each of the following:

  • Quotations
  • And
  • “-” command

Write down what you searched for and the URLs for 6 RELIABLE sites from each search.
(You should have a total of 18 sites written down.)

Write one sentence for each site about why you think it is a reliable source.  (Total of 18 sentences.)

  • Who wrote the content? Was this person a reliable source?

When you are done with all of the sites, you are going to write a paragraph answering the following question:

  • Why is it important to make sure the information we find online is accurate?
